How To Keep Your Wig From Getting Tangled

In order to make sure that you look as natural as possible when wearing a wig, you need to keep it tangle free. Your wigs are going to tangle much more easily than your natural hair will because your natural hair is constantly producing oils that keep your hair soft and moisturized. Wigs aren't able to do this and therefore end up tangling much more quickly. These tangles can feel borderline impossible to remove. Here are some tips for keeping your wig from getting tangled.

1. Wash and Condition Your Wig

Your first step is to wash and condition your wig on a weekly basis. If you are using a lot of product to style your wig, consider washing it slightly more than once a week. In order to wash your wig, take it off the wig stand and dip it into a bowl of warm water. Carefully swirl it around and remove it from the water. Put it back on the wig stand. Take a very mild shampoo with a low pH value and apply it to your hands. Once it is on your hands, start running your fingers through the wig so that it is like you are finger combing it. Be sure that you are distributing the shampoo evenly. When you are done, rinse out the shampoo and add conditioner. While the conditioner is on your wig, use a bristle brush to start brushing away tangles. Your wig should be slippery enough at this point that the tangles are relatively easy to remove.

2. Start at the Bottom and Move Up When Tackling Tangles

If you find a knot in your wig, you are going to need to take care of it right away before it gets any bigger. However, if you don't take care of it in the proper manner, you could make the tangle worse. Be sure that you start at the end of your wig and work your way up. You do this to make sure that you don't accidentally push the tangle down and cause it to bunch even more badly.

3. Keep Collars to a Minimum

Finally, many people have issues with their wigs balling up at the nape of their neck. You can resolve this issue by wearing collars with thinner fabrics or staying away from collars all together. Make sure that you brush the nape of your neck regularly to get rid of tiny tangles and avoid creating huge ones.
